The 2015 Stony Hill Chardonnay is a very special vintage. 2015 was a significant drought year, and our 30-year old, hillside, dry-farmed vines had not had a serious drink in almost four years. The growing season and harvest both came early. These conditions resulted in a small crop with extraordinarily intense fruit. We have all been impressed by this vintage, even in this early stage of life. If there were one Stony Hill Chardonnay we’d want to try 20 years from now, this would be it. We have very high hopes for this baby!
The 2015 vintage has the signature fresh, green apple notes and minerality of a young Stony Hill, but it has richness and power that is well beyond its years. We found it literally mouthwatering, with notes of peach and nectarine on the nose and a satisfying roundness in the mid-palate, followed by a very long, bright finish. It has all the things one looks for in a Stony Hill Chardonnay, magnified.
