Excerpted from: The Pour - In Love Again with Chardonnay
There have always been great California chardonnays. Like top white Burgundies, they are built around a spine of laser like acidity strong enough to handle muscular fruit, mineral flavors and even oak. In the last year I have loved vastly different chardonnays: old school, non-malolactic, no-new-oak Stony Hill and non-malolactic new-oak Forman Vineyards, both from Napa Valley as well as full malolactic new-oak wines like Kistler
These are great wines that recognize balance and subtlety over flamboyance. |
